How to Dress for Your Ski Lesson in Negative Temperatures

Dressing properly is essential to staying warm, comfortable, and safe during your ski lesson—especially in below-zero temperatures.

  • Base Layer: Start with a moisture-wicking thermal top and bottom (avoid cotton). This layer keeps sweat off your skin and helps regulate body temperature.

  • Mid Layer: Add an insulating layer such as fleece or wool to retain heat.

  • Outer Layer: Wear a waterproof and windproof ski jacket and pants to protect against wind, snow, and cold air.

  • Hands: Insulated, waterproof gloves or mittens are a must. Consider hand warmers for added warmth.

  • Feet: Wear one pair of warm, moisture-wicking ski socks (wool or synthetic). Avoid doubling up on socks, as this can reduce circulation.

  • Head & Neck: A helmet, warm hat, or helmet liner plus a neck gaiter or balaclava will help protect exposed skin from wind chill.

  • Eyes: Goggles are recommended to shield your eyes from cold air, wind, and snow.

Pro Tip: If you’re not sure whether you’re dressed warmly enough, add one extra layer. It’s easier to cool down than to warm up in extreme cold.
