Niki Vasu has been selected as the new Assistant Principal of Pine Intermediate School and was approved at the March 4 North Olmsted Board of Education Meeting. Vasu is replacing Jessica Barwacz who will be moving into the principal role at Pine starting next year.
While Vasu will be new to Pine Intermediate she is not new to North Olmsted. She is currently a second grade teacher at Maple Intermediate and has been since 2021. Prior to that she was a kindergarten teacher at Forest Primary and a third grade teacher at Butternut Primary. She is also a graduate of North Olmsted City Schools.
Vasu’s leadership experience extends beyond the classroom. She has served on various committees ranging from the Building Leadership Team to the district’s Strategic Planning Committee. In addition, Vasu has also presented about the Science of Reading at the North Olmsted Library and Student Motivation and Feedback to her colleagues in the district. She also served on the Northern Ohio Board of Directors for the International Dyslexia Association. Vasu is a graduate of Baldwin- Wallace University and obtained her Masters in Education from Cleveland State University.
“I’m excited to transition to the administrative side of education,” Vasu said. “I’m looking forward to impacting the education of students from a different lens. I enjoy forming relationships and connections with families and students each school year and now I’ll have the opportunity to do that with the entire school building,” she added.
“We are excited to welcome Niki to our administrative team. She is a familiar face in our district and in the community,” said Superintendent Chris Caleris. “Her experience both instructionally and with our students and families stood out in the interview process and will be an asset to our team ,” he added.
Vasu will begin her official duties on August 1st.
